Sheldon Lavin serves as the current chairman and CEO of the OSI Group, which is named by the Forbes Magazine as one of the leading food processing firms on the planet. Initially working on the financial industry, he found himself working in the food industry after the OSI Group was left for him to manage. Since then, he has been serving the food industry for more than 40 years, and he used his skills in managing businesses to take the OSI Group to a whole new level. Before he entered the food industry, he was working as a bank executive and an investor, and through his financial consulting firm, he was able to meet the original owners of the OSI Group. Because he wanted to face new challenges, he decided to enter the food industry, leading him to an unknown path which would become his home for the next four decades. Mr. Lavin has been a great leader to the OSI Group, and he initiated several reforms that made him a model in the food industry.
Otto Kolschowsky founded the OSI Group in the early part of the 20th century. During the 1970s, the founder of the OSI Group had to meet with Sheldon Lavin, because they need additional funding. They have been chosen by the McDonald’s Corporation to become one of their business partners, but they could not keep up with the fast growth of the company, especially when it entered the international market. Otto Kolschowsky asked Sheldon Lavin for additional funding and based on the contract released by the financial institution, they would need to provide an ownership position to Sheldon Lavin before the financial assistance can be given. He initially declined what the financial institution has commanded the owners of the OSI Group, but he later accepted the terms after several revisions were made.
Working indirectly with the company at first, he found himself becoming the leader after the original owners decided to retire. It was in the 1980s when he was given full control of the company, and he used his influence to expand the business elsewhere. During his first years as the new chairman and CEO of the OSI Group, Sheldon Lavin managed to expand the operations of the company to new sites overseas. He managed to build new operational locations in Asia, and then it expanded to Europe, South America, Africa, and Oceania.
