Richard DeVaul is an innovation crusader. He believes that businesses are not achieving their potential as they lack innovation and doing little to achieve it. He, however, points out that for such innovation, businesses must strive to achieve diversity.

However, business leaders generally agree that workforce diversity is beneficial for any company. DeVaul further points that despite this knowledge among business leaders, a survey by PwC showed a disconnect between the perception of diversity and actualization of diversity.
Richard DeVaul believes that any company that seeks to stay ahead of its peers must create an inclusive culture. He believes that an inclusive culture makes the recipe for diversity as people from different backgrounds, experiences, and ethnicities wish to join and stay. In terms of performance and innovation, he believes that companies with a more diverse workforce outshine their peers.
DeVaul points that homogenous workforces are more likely to be complacent, and the uniformity of thoughts hinders innovations. On the contrary, diverse workforce forces individuals to be critical thinkers as they understand their viewpoints must be defended critically or replaced with alternatives. DeVaul, however, warns that companies should not use diversity just for appearance. Businesses must ensure that everyone’s opinion counts, thus promoting an enabling environment where employees are certain their contribution is essential. He points out that diversity without an enabling working culture is a waste of crucial competitive advantage. DeVaul has more than 15 years of practical engineering, having worked with different companies, including Google X. He holds more than 60 patents for his innovations, with several more in processing. He holds a Ph.D. from MIT Media Lab and has a strong background in math and physics.
